(Burger) Battle of the ‘Burg

Say that five times fast, right?

Enjoy Arts and Tastes, a brand new food, wine, and arts festival debuted in St. Pete this weekend, and Scott and I had the opportunity to attend the heated burger battle on Sunday afternoon.  It was hosted by Donatella Arpaia at The Club at Treasure Island, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather or a more beautiful venue.  The atmosphere was truly festive.  We ran into some old friends and got to meet some new ones, and the afternoon felt like a relaxed and celebratory farewell to a successful weekend.

In addition to the delicious bites The Club and Donatella provided, many local restaurants came out to showcase their tastiest burger offerings.  They were judged by all the guests as well as a panel of VIPs, including Donatella Arpaia, Mindy Grossman (HSN), Brian Bailey (iLovetheBurg), and Bill Edwards (Bill Edwards Presents).

There was so much great food to try, and I was absolutely stuffed about an hour into it…so stuffed that I almost didn’t have room for the last burger I needed to try before casting my vote.  I’m so glad I didn’t skip it, though, because it ended up being my last taste from Luckie B’s that took home the people’s choice trophy!  Luckie (sorry) for my husband, this place is only a couple blocks from his office, so I’m sure that’s just the first of many Luckie B’s burgers he’ll be eating.

The judges selected the burger from St. Pete’s newest steakhouse, Rococo, as their winner.  Rococo just opened a couple weeks ago, and it’s been getting great press, not only for its food but also for its enthusiastic support of local artists.  Judging from how great their burger was, I can’t wait to try more things from Chef Richard Potts.

This was such a fun event for us and such a huge weekend for St. Pete.  I’m glad I got to be a part of it, and I hope everyone involved had enough fun to come back and do it all over again next year!

P.S. I also somehow managed to walk away with a free package of party potato rolls, so expect a slider recipe in the near future…
